Carren Shayne “Shani” Carter was born on May 13, 1966 on Ramstein AFB in Germany to Carol and Joe Carter. Shani was their beloved first-born daughter. Her childhood was spent in the company of her sisters, Christy Shawn and Lee Ellen, traveling the US and Europe as military brats. The family settled down in Louisiana when Joe retired from the Air Force. Shani eventually moved to Suwanee, Georgia and spent the remainder of her life in Gwinnett County.
Shani was blessed with three children: Brilee (Chris Pacas) Coleman, Chelsea (Crawford) Crews and Caleb Coleman. Shani always loved and was proud of her kids. Shani enjoyed true crime dramas, politics, and cable news. She loved Mexican food, Italian food and burger king burgers. She had many friends and a few loves in her life including the father of her children, Ethan Coleman and her very special friend Ray Panciera. More than anything, Shani loved and depended on her mother, Carol. Shani struggled throughout her life. Her mother cared and supported her during these struggles.
Shani’s health began a serious decline after Carol passed in 2022. Shani was suffering from both breast cancer and congestive heart failure when she suddenly passed away on September 17, 2023, joining both her parents in death. She is survived by her children, Brilee, Chelsea and Caleb; her two grandchildren; her sisters Christy and Lee; special friend Ray; and many friends and relatives who loved her. A short private service will take place at Honey Creek Woodlands at 9 AM on September 30 followed by a private interment ceremony for family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Shani’s name to the National Alliance of Mental Illness:
