Bernard William Schwind

Mr. Bernard William Schwind, born October 27, 1935, died peacefully on September 11, 2023 surrounded by family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Ida Schwind; children, Deborah Wilbanks and Karen (Jim) Clark; grandchildren, William Matthew Wilbanks (Arlynn), and Daniel Scott Wilbanks; great-grandchildren, William Robert Wilbanks & Wells Marie Wilbanks; brother, Ernest Schwind; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, and is already missed so much.

Mr. Schwind was born in Cleveland, OH and raised in Bayou – La – Batre, AL near Mobile Bay. He loved seafood and being near the water his whole life. He graduated from Alba High School in 1953. He then enlisted in the Air Force and was honorably discharged after 4 years. While in the Air Force, Mr. Schwind met another service member, Ida Putnam, who would become his wife on April 5, 1957.

After spending a year living in AL, Mr. Schwind was hired by the F.A.A. and later settled in the regional office area in Atlanta. Mr. Schwind enjoyed a long career of over 30 years with the F.A.A., and upon retirement, worked in a similar capacity in private industry before fully retiring in his early seventies to enjoy his much loved family and trips to Amelia Island, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 15, 2023 at Memorial Park South Chapel with interment following at Memorial Park South Cemetery. Rev. Ben Phillips will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 15, 2023 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.
