Opal Brown Thomason Coker, age 81, of Alto, Georgia went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 25, 2023.
Mrs. Coker was born on December 15, 1941 in Stephens County, Georgia to the late Boyd and Gwendolyn Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billie Thomason; brother, Brittian Brown; brothers and sisters-in-law, Don Collins, O'Dell and Doris Coker, Wendell and Mozelle Kesler, Coleman and Annie Ruth Thomason, Charlies and Willie Thomason, Judith and Junior Mize.
Mrs. Coker was a graduate of Stephens County High School in 1959. Opal was an expert artist in sewing, porcelain doll making, and crocheting. As a member of the Atlanta Doll Makers Club, she helped plan and execute the yearly shows and won many awards for her variety of abilities in painting and dress making. She loved to travel with friends and family and was able to visit such places as Germany and Alaska, as well as many states across the country. She was kind and nurturing, wanting everyone to feel loved and welcomed into her home. Opal was known as "Nana" to all. Nothing filled her heart more than spending time with her family. She made every holiday special with heartfelt gifts and fun games. She will be missed by so many. We strive for her legacy to live in all of us.
Survivors include her loving husband, Omer Coker, of Alto; her children, Stan and Terry Thomason, Lisa and Ward Frost, Scot Thomason and Brooke Baskins, Frankie and Jonathan Olds, Chad Coker and Mark Ward, Casey and Marcia Coker; grandchildren, Sarah Ross, Madeline Thomason, Benjamin Thomason, Eva Ross, Grady Ross, Rainee and Joseph Thompson, Kirbie and Gabriel Catlin, Ryder Frost, Tanner Frost, Conner Frost, Aubrey Frost, Jonthan and Amanda Thomason, Rebecca Olds, Elizabeth Olds, Victoria and Jared Copeland, Chase and Destiny Coker, Courtney Haynes, Britt Coker, and Gavin Ross; great-grandchildren, Tristan and Rozalyn Manchester, Quentin Thompson and Joanna Coker; siblings, Elmo and Frank Andrews, Linda Wood, Tilitha Collins; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Exie and Lanier Burnnet; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Otis and Nancy Coker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023 and again from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel.
A Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 2, 2023 at the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
