Martha Jo Walter, age 78, of Cornelia, Georgia went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Lee Epperson and Elizabeth Stallings Epperson, and her sister, Carol Ann Epperson.
Mrs. Walter was born on June 25, 1945, in Anderson County, South Carolina to the late Walter Lee and Elizabeth Stallings Epperson. She graduated from South Habersham High School in 1963 and from Piedmont College in 1967. She was a member of the Cornelia United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and served as church secretary for many years.
She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, James Douglas Walter. Other survivors include her beloved children and their spouses, Tara Walter Brookshire (Kevin Brookshire) of Clarkesville, Georgia, and Brad Walter (Amy Walter) of Stuarts Draft, Virginia. Mrs. Walter, a kind, loving, and devoted grandmother, is also survived by her five grandchildren whom affectionately called her “Mimi”: Seth Bradley Walter, Audrey Elizabeth Walter, Ava Jolie Brookshire, Megan Christine Walter, and Jameson Stanton Brookshire. Mrs. Walter is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Debbie Epperson Burrell (Jerry Burrell) of Mt. Airy, Georgia, and niece, Wendi Burrell Woods (Ray Woods) of Cornelia, Georgia, and great nephew and niece, Jacob and Tyler Woods.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Cornelia United Methodist Church with Pastor Ben Wilcox officiating. A private family interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Cornelia United Methodist Church.
