Wilda Pirkle

Wilda Pirkle, 89, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 following a short illness.

Born January 26, 1934 to the late Lee and Bertie Castleberry, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.  Wilda was a 1953 graduate of Dawson County High School.  She retired from Guilford Mills following 25 years of service.  After her retirement she spent most of her time as a caregiver.  She enjoyed gardening, quilting and cooking, especially her fried apple pies.  A member of Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Church, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Pirkle; daughter, Kay Allen; sons, Scott Allen, Michael Allen; sisters, Janice Mantrell, Margaret Eddings; brothers, Charles Castleberry, Leroy Castleberry, C. L. Castleberry, Jerry Castleberry, Jimmy “Cat” Castleberry; and son in law, Tommy Lamb.

Surviving are her children, Stanley Allen, Dawsonville, Debbie Lamb, Cumming, Otis Allen and Michele Janzer, Gainesville, Tracy and David Britt, Asheville, NC, Devin Allen, Dawsonville; daughter in law, Vickie Allen, Dawsonville; 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Dale, Dahlonega, Evelyn Millwood, Gainesville, Judy Watson, San Antonio, TX; special friend, Betty Rice; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Terry Castleberry, Rev. Rick Castleberry, and Rev. Fred Enlow will officiate.  Interment will follow in the Dawsonville City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
