Jerry Harrison Bennett, age 89, of Gainesville Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 after an extended illness. Jerry was born in Atlanta, Georgia to the late John and Myrt Bennett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Dorothy Buffington, Doris Willis and daughter, Jill Bennett.
Jerry was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served in combat during the Korean War. After his service, he met and married his wife of 64 years, Ellen Allen Bennett.
He was employed for most of his working career as Plant Manager with Vintage Homes in Gainesville.
Jerry loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading his Bible. His other hobbies included fishing, camping, woodworking and watching the Atlanta Braves.
His legacy will live on through his wife, Ellen; daughter Lori (Don) McEachin; son, Chris (Paige) Bennett; grandsons Josh (Amber) McEachin and Taylor (Stacie) McEachin; granddaughter, Shelley Bennett; great granddaughters, Anna and Ellie McEachin; sister, Jonnie Everett, and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Oakwood First United Methodist Church in Oakwood, Georgia where he served on many committees.
A funeral service to honor Jerry’s life will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memorial Park Road, Gainesville, Georgia. A visitation will be held 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Saturday, preceding the service. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Gainesville. The pallbearers will be Mack Eades, Jonathan Ingram, Bryan Ingram, Josh McEachin, Taylor McEachin and Danny Allen. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
