Scott Hammond passed away June 28, 2023 with his best friend Ludwig at his side. A memorial service will be held August 12, 2023 at Flannigan funeral home 4400 S. Lee St. Buford, GA 30518 Visitors will be received at 2pm and a service will be held at 4pm. A small interment will take place August 13 at 10am at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens.
Scott attended Henderson High School, followed by Columbus State University, and Georgia State University undergraduate and masters degrees focused in music and teaching.
Scott began his orchestra career in the 1980s in Dekalb County and moved to Gwinnett County during the next decade. Although he taught at several other county schools, he spent much of his teaching career at both Berkmar and Dacula High Schools. Scott cared about his students and his high school students completely connected with him. He was a conductor of note and directed not only the Gwinnett County Kendall Honor Orchestra for many years, but also a Piedmont area community orchestra. Besides being an Orchestra Chair for District 4, Scott also served as GMEA State Orchestra Chair.
An avid golfer, Scott would be very upset if any of you should miss a tee time to attend this memorial unless there is lighting and then you should probably try to squeeze in nine and then attend.
Scott is survived by his brother Shawn and sister Janet and God Daughter Destinee Lamb and Great God Daughter Olivia Stovall-Moore. He is predeceased by sister Judy (2011), brother Steve (2021), father Joe (2003) and mother Miriam (2017).
In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Lifeline Animal Rescue or the animal rescue of your choosing.
Those not able to travel to the service on Saturday August 12, 2023 are invited to join remotely via Zoom. Please use the link below to connect shortly before 4pm EDT.
