Gene Douglas Anderson, age 91, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2023, with his wife, Annice, by his side.
Born in Chicago to Allen and Catherine Connoy Anderson, Gene was raised in East Lansing, Michigan. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in electrical engineering and was a lifelong Spartans athletics fan. Gene was employed by Lockheed Martin for 36 years prior to his 1998 retirement. He worked on several of Lockheed's major projects, such as the C-5, C-5A and his last–and favorite–the F-22 fighter jet. Gene and Annice retired to the Skylake community in Sautee, Georgia, where he was a President of the Property Owners’ Association Board of Directors and served on many committees.
Also in retirement, Gene volunteered to teach math for 15 years in the GED Test preparation program at North Georgia Technical College (White County), where he helped many students reach their goal of earning their GED. He loved teaching these students, and they loved him. Some kept in touch with him for years.
Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Wehner Anderson; son, Doug Anderson; and brother, Jim Anderson.
Gene is survived by his wife of nearly 44 years, Annice Ward Anderson, of Demorest, Georgia; sons Rob (Renita) Anderson of Decatur, Georgia, and Ward Anderson of Toronto, Canada; daughter-in-law Vickie Anderson of Senoia, Georgia; and five grandchildren: Michael, David, Chloe (Sam), Marlowe, and Parker. His sister Sharon (Dick) Cummings of Bath, Michigan, also survives him.
In honor of Gene’s wishes, a service will not be held.
The family would like to thank the Laurel Lodge staff for their compassionate care over the past two years.
