Mrs. Cherry P. Kinney, 74, of Shelbyville, Tennessee passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Memorial Park Riverside Chapel. Rev. Dr. Tony Lankford to officiate the services. The family will receive friends after the service.
Cherry was a native of Gainesville and graduated from East Hall High School in 1967 and Gainesville College in 1969.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ed and Irene Pierce, sister Sara Ruth, brother John, sisters Francis and Susie. She is survived by her husband Joe, son Chad and wife Lamia, grandsons Brandon and Alex of Mobile, Alabama, sisters Bennie Mae and Polly and brothers Dennis and Jessie.
Cherry and Joe lived most of their lives in Mobile, Alabama owning Kinney Nursery, a grower of high quality nursery stock for the trade. Cherry had a gift for sales and would perform any task to insure the success of the business. Customers loved talking to Cherry as she treated everyone with respect and kindness. When it was time to work Joe’s heard of Black Angus cattle, Cherry would jump right in and give a hand.
Cherry was a beautiful woman with a sense of style and fashion and always stood out in a crowd. Cherry and Joe sold their business in 2019 and moved to their long time farm near Shelbyville, Tennessee in 2020 and proceeded to build a new home on the farm. The house was completed in late May of this year, sadly, she was not able to move in due to her illness.
Cherry was a good wife to Joe for over 54 years and a good helpmate in their business and everyday life. She was a good mother to Chad and grandsons Brandon and Alex. She will be missed by those who loved and knew her.
