Lorraine Chitwood

Obituary Date: Sunday, July 23, 2023

Lorraine Chitwood, age 59, of Cleveland, Georgia passed away on Sunday, July 23. 2023.

Lorraine was born on June 25, 1964, in Habersham County, to Fred and Lonie Burton Furry. She was known by all for her contagious smile that would light up her whole face and her compassionate and genuine heart for loving and serving others. Lorraine was known for her love for Jesus Christ and she committed herself to living her life where others could see Christ through her as she devoted herself to her family, friends, and her willingness to take in and support anyone in need. Lorraine was truly a “good and faithful servant!”

Lorraine was married to her loving and devoted husband, Kelvin, for nearly 40 years. While the two would have celebrated 40 years of marriage on August 26, 2023, the loving couple had been together since the age of 15. Lorraine and Kelvin’s love story began by meeting at Cool Springs United Methodist Church as teens, falling in love by accident, getting married to get out of the house, and ending up falling deeply in love where the rest is history. While Kelvin will go on, his love for his dear, sweet wife will last a lifetime.

Lorraine’s daughter Natalie was the light of her life. Their relationship was much deeper than a typical mother-daughter relationship; the two were best friends and Lorraine was Natalie’s keeper of secrets, her inspiration, and the one who gave her life.

In her endless love for her daughter, Lorraine also embraced her son-in-law, Devin, with the love of a mother, treating Devin like her own and loving him with all her heart.

Since 1998, Lorraine worked for Dr. Holly Cantrell. During those 25 years of service, she made many friendships with all of her co-workers and was a joyful face to all of the patients she interacted with.

Lorraine not only had a heart for people, she also had a heart for animals. She especially loved her two fur babies, Dottie Dot and Ellie, who will miss her terribly. Lorraine found joy in spending time with family and friends, and found much happiness in time spent putting together puzzles and playing Bingo with Lee Lee or making memories during shopping sprees with her mother, Lonie, and sister, Eva.

Lorraine is preceded in death by her grandmother, Wilma Furry; grandfather, Lewis Burton; great-grandmother, Granny Garrish; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Phillip and Ossie Mae Chitwood.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Kelvin Chitwood; daughter and “son”, Natalie and Devin Roberts; special adopted son and daughter John and Dophine Brown and her wonderful adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved; father and mother, Fred and Lonie Furry; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eva and Jeff Cooper, Stephanie and Rick Mason, Lauren Furry and Patricia Broskey; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Bobby York, Carolyn and Charles Wilkes, and Phyllis and Barry Trotter, Lesia Long, Brannon and Brenda Chitwood, Ben and Judy Chitwood, and Clint and Deborah Chitwood; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Friday, July 28, 2023 at Cool Springs United Methodist Church. The Rev. Steve McIntyre, the Rev. Wayne Smith, and Mrs. Eva Cooper will officiate. Interment will follow in Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to help with funeral expenses.
