Sara Joyce Hicks

Sara Joyce Hicks, age 79, of Murrayville, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Mrs. Hicks was born on May 16, 1944, to the late Claude and Eva Greer Coble.  She worked as a nutritionist at Long Branch Elementary School.  She was a graduate of Stone Mountain High School.  Joyce was a devoted and faithful member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church for 51 years.  She was a loving wife, mother, and Nanny who enjoyed spending time with her family.  Joyce was a hard worker and was known for her wonderful cooking of fried chicken, meatloaf, okra, and many other foods.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Coble; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Doyle and Lenora Hicks; brother-in-law, J.B. Ash; and great-niece, Annah Faith Robinson.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Rev. Tim Hicks; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Andy Caldwell, Dahlonega, Stacie and Steven Reece, Murrayville, and Tammy and Jason Watkins, Murrayville; grandchildren, Amy Caldwell, McKenzie Reece, and Matthew Reece; siblings, Jo Ash and Jackie and Billy Fountain, all of Murrayville; several nieces, nephews, and a large host of friends also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  The Rev. Phillip Robinson, the Rev. Franklin Grant, the Rev. Les Fuller, and the Rev. Ed Chambers will officiate.  Interment will follow in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 – 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
