Bernice Ware

Ms. Bernice Ware was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She departed this earthly life on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, after serving 75 years on the Lord’s battlefield. Bernice was born on March 31, 1948, to the union of Boots and Delma Ware in Gainesville, GA. The sixth of 11 children. She accepted Christ at an early age at Sanders Chapel (later renamed Rucker Memorial Baptist Church- Gainesville, GA) and began to carry out her mission. She carried out her mission at Gresham Park Christian Church in Decatur, GA. She had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help wherever needed. She received her formal education at EE Butler. Ms. Ware was employed in Dekalb County Public School System where she served dutifully for over 25 years before retiring in 2021. “Cheat” as she was affectionately known to many, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a tell-it-like-it-is woman, holding nothing back. In her leisure, she enjoyed cooking, traveling, consignment bargain shopping, Western movies, spending time with friends at Bigelow’s, gardening, and the Atlanta Falcons. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents (Boots and Delma Ware), her beloved son, Tony Maurice Ware, two brothers, Leroy Randolph, Johnny Harris, five sisters, Annie Lois Ware Thomas, Joanne Ware, Janet K. Ware, Doris A. Ware, and Edna Parker. Bernice’s celebration of life will be remembered by her niece (bonus daughter), Lisa Ware, Upper Marlboro, MD, one grandson, Tony Graves, two great-grandchildren, Shanelle Davis, and Malachi Davenport, Atlanta, GA. Her siblings, Herschel Wells, Jerald “Pete” Ware, Brenda Mize, all of Gainesville, GA; Michael (Janet) Ware, of Griffin, GA. One sister-in-law, Mattie Lee Harris, Gainesville, GA. A best friend, Rhonda Hight, Fairburn, GA. Countless of nieces, nephews, and host of friends.
 
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Antioch Baptist Church at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 between the hours of 12:00 PM- 8:00 PM. Family will receive friends between 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Wimberly Funeral Home. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
