Roger Alan Matthews

Mr. Roger Alan Matthews, age 69, of Gainesville passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born May 4, 1954 to L. Roger and Guylyn Matthews. He attended Gainesville College and graduated from Brenau University with a Bachelor of Science degree. After 35 years in Water Resources with Gwinnett County, he retired as the Laboratory Manager in 2021.

Funeral Services will be at 4:00 P.M. Friday, July 7, 2023 at Memorial Park South Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Friday, July 7, 2023 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home.

Roger loved his family and beloved dog, Max. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many vacations at St. George Island. When he was a young man, many of his summers were spent in Highlands, North Carolina, working in theatre with his dear friend, Henry Johnson. He was known to many for his sense of humor and wit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, L. Roger & Guylyn; and his sister-in-law, Denise Matthews. He is survived by his wife, Mary Deanna Matthews; two daughters, Jessie & Rachel Matthews; sister & brother-in-law, Terri & Roger Odle; brother & sister-in-law, Guy & Danielle Matthews; brother-in-law, Rusty & Connie Smith, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He will be missed and loved by many.
