Dahlonega bid a heartfelt farewell to Benjamin "Stanley" Abernathy, a beloved member of the community, who passed away peacefully at the age of 66 on Monday, July 3, 2023.
Stanley was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was born on November 17, 1956, to the late Henry and Faye Abernathy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his siblings, Bobby and Patsy. Stanley was a faithful deacon at Hightower Baptist Church, where he served with humility and compassion. His strong faith guided him throughout his life, and he was an inspiration to all who knew him. Stanley's commitment to his church community brought comfort and support to those in need, and his warm smile and kind words brought comfort to many.
Outside of his church duties, Stanley's love was the great outdoors. He had an adventurous spirit and a deep appreciation for nature's beauty. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, and he found great joy in the tranquility of the woods and the thrill of reeling in a catch.
Beyond his love for nature, Stanley possessed a remarkable talent for building with his hands. He had a true craftsman's touch and was known for his meticulous attention to detail. Whether it was constructing furniture, renovating his home, or simply tinkering with various projects, His handiwork will forever serve as a reminder of his dedication and craftsmanship. Stanley's last work with hands was keeping his grand baby's bicycles and motorcycles rolling.
Before retirement, Stanley dedicated 39 years of his life to Torrington, where he worked diligently and earned the respect of his colleagues. His strong work ethic, combined with his integrity and kindness, made him a valued member of the company. Stanley's contributions and commitment to his profession will be remembered and appreciated by all those who had the pleasure of working alongside him.
