Virginia Carroll Winkler

Virginia Carroll Winkler passed away peacefully on June 30, 2023, at the age of 83. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and a green thumb that brought joy to all who knew her.
 
Born on October 9, 1939, in Dahlonega, Virginia was the daughter of the late Thomas Jarrard and the late Ollie Grizzle Jarrard. Growing up in the beautiful town of Dahlonega, she developed a deep appreciation for nature, which blossomed into a lifelong passion for gardening. Virginia's green thumb was renowned throughout the community, and her gardens flourished with vibrant flowers and bountiful vegetables, reflecting her nurturing spirit.
 
Virginia found solace and purpose within the walls of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was an active and devoted member, cherishing the fellowship of her church family. Her unwavering faith and dedication to her religious community served as an inspiration to all who crossed her path.
 
Virginia was not only known for her green thumb and faith but also for her warm and caring nature. She possessed a kind and gentle spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of comfort to those in need. Her genuine love and concern for others touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
 
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by a son, David Garnet Winkler; siblings Willis Jarrard, Velma Morrell, Jessica McCown, Emilye Dyer, and Edith Cahill; nephew Terry McCown, and special friend Evelyn House. 
 
She is survived by her children, Dr. Donna Whitfield (Bryan Whitfield V) of Dahlonega, Aaron Donald Winkler (Rhonda Wade) of Dahlonega, and Joan Emily Winkler of Hull, Georgia; sister Santa Jarrard Crisson of Dahlonega; grandchildren Dr. Bryan Whitfield VI (Katee), Nathan Whitfield, William Whitfield, and Brittany Grillo; great-grandchildren Bryan Whitfield VII, Connor Whitfield, Kaii Adams, and Ryeker Grillo; nieces and nephews Reesa Crisson Shedd (Jamie), Lisa McMahan (Jerry), and Teresa Crisson; very special friends Ivy Gooch and Iris Smith. Numerous other nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives also survive. 
 
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 3, 2023 in the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Shane Savage will officiate. Interment will follow in the cemetery of Dahlonega Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 2, 2023, from 5:00 PM until  8:00 PM.
 
 
The memory of Virginia Carroll Winkler will forever be treasured by her family and friends. Her legacy of compassion, devotion, and her green thumb will live on, as her spirit continues to blossom in the hearts and gardens she nurtured. She will be dearly missed but fondly remembered as a beacon of love, faith, and beauty.
 
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Macedonia Baptist Church in memory of Virginia.
