Naila Eveler Matichak

Obituary Date: Saturday, June 24, 2023
Naila Eveler Matichak, aged 63, went to be with her heavenly father on June 20, 2023.

She was born in Port Lyautey, Morocco on March 7, 1960, to 1stLt. Bernard Eveler and Dina Eveler. The proud daughter of a Marine, Naila moved around many times as a child, following her father’s Marine Corps career. Her family eventually settled in northern California, where she met her husband, Kam. After marrying Kam and having her children Marissa and Ryan, Naila moved out to the suburbs of Atlanta, where she lived for over 30 years.

Naila touched the hearts, and heads, of many over the years through her work as a hairdresser. She started working in a salon in San Ramon, CA and eventually brought her practice with her to Duluth, GA. Naila was in her element at her shop, doing hair over the years for her family and for friends and clients who were like family. Naila was the quintessential hairdresser, always lovingly involved with her clients, their lives, and their families. She continued doing hair up until her final months.

Most of all, Naila loved family. Throughout her life, Naila always put family first. She was the oldest of four siblings and the matriarch of the family. Coming from a very close and loving family herself, she instilled a deep importance for love and family to all that proceeded her. There was nothing that Naila loved more than the commotion of a family get-together with yummy food and lots of laughter. Her grandchildren coined the name “Zammie” for Naila, and she loved them fiercely. Her nieces and nephews affectionately called her “Apa,” a term of endearment from her Tatar heritage meaning aunt. Naila’s love for family will live on in them.

Many who knew Naila will recall her zest for life. She loved music and dancing and never passed up the opportunity to enjoy both. Her love for food and cooking is reflected in the endless memories she shared with family and friends in the kitchen over the years. She inherited a green thumb from her mother, Dina and could do wonders in the garden. Overall, Naila moved through this life with a vibrancy rarely seen in others. Her greatest legacy will be how through her personal and professional life she affected so many with that light and her selfless, thoughtful nature.

Naila is survived by her husband, Kam, her daughter and son-in-law, Marissa and Gerardo, her son Ryan, and grandchildren Zadie, Kaila, and Raiden. She leaves behind her parents Bernard and Dina Eveler and her siblings Ron, David, and Darleen.

A celebration of life will be held at 1p.m., Wednesday June 28, 2023 at Hamilton Mill Methodist Church. Naila’s request was that there be lots of color, therefore no black attire needed.
