Holland "T Model" Edmond Maddox was welcomed into Heaven by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on June 21, 2023.
Friends knew him by the nickname, T Model, which he was given at 7 years old while sitting on a T Model hooked to the syrup mill. He was the youngest of five siblings and grew up crop farming with his family.
He was married to the love of his life, Hazel Holland for 63 years. He was a loving and faithful husband who took pride in making her happy. He was so proud of his son, Larry, who was also his best friend. They enjoyed spending quality time together and logged many miles traveling to do the things they both enjoyed. He loved his daughter-in-law, Jackie, and continuously praised her for all she did for him.
Prior to working at Dolco Packaging Corporation for over 20 years, he worked at the Bona Allen Harness Factory. He had the pleasure of working closely with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans when they were in town customizing their saddles. He was featured in the local Leather City movie detailing the history of Buford, Georgia and The Bona Allen Company.
He was an active and faithful member of Duncan Creek Church where he served as a Deacon and was the oldest living member. He loved his church family and always made a point to welcome visitors. He enjoyed attending Homecoming each year where he cherished seeing so many familiar faces. He missed very few in his 95 years. One of his favorite days of the year was the Maddox family reunion where he enjoyed reminiscing and was usually the first one to arrive and the last to leave.
As Larry always said, "he was a simple, but solid man". He was a hard worker and enjoyed simple pleasures in life. He was always smiling, laughing, and had a keen sense of telling old stories that he knew would make you laugh. He had an infectious and recognizable laugh that would make anyone smile. He never met a stranger and had a unique way of making others feel special.
His love for family was evident in how he spent his time. He took interest in his granddaughters’ and great-grandchildrens’ activities and had a special bond with each of them. He was so proud of Russell and Anthony and loved the way they cared for his granddaughters. He loved family dinners and celebrating birthdays and took pride in bringing his famous cornbread and sweet tea.
He was quite the handy man and could fix anything. He enjoyed raising cattle and goats, fixing lawn mowers, driving tractors, going to auctions, and working outdoors. Most days were spent in the shop behind his house where only he knew the location of each and every tool. Later in life, he adopted a love for puzzles. If he wasn't watching Westerns, he was cheering on the Atlanta Hawks and Atlanta Braves.
He loved the Lord and will always be remembered for his heart for others. He was a loving Son, Brother, Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Pepaw and was a sweet friend to so many of all ages. He is leaving a legacy of faith. He longed to hear what we should all want to hear God say, "Welcome home, my child".
