Barbara Jean Garner Wood

Barbara Jean Garner Wood age 86, of Demorest, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023.

Born on April 8, 1937, in Habersham County, she was a daughter of the late J. D. Garner and Ione Taylor Garner. Mrs. Wood was retired from Clarkesville Mill. Barbara was an avid reader and enjoyed reading her Bible and the Northeast Georgian. She loved her family and also enjoyed solving crossword puzzles, cooking, and listening to WCON every morning. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. R. Wood; and son David Wood; brothers, B. J. Garner, Jimmy A. Garner, and Dale Garner; Sisters-in-law; Montine Bobo, Mildred Garner, Sue Wood, and Rachel Franklin.

Survivors include daughter, Denise Wood Gailey of Demorest; son and daughter-in-law, Shane Wood (Jennifer) of Flowery Branch; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Carol Kimbrell of Mt. Airy, and Betty Ferguson of Cleveland; half-sister, Kathy Garner Clark; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Ledford, Shirley Hilton, and Ann Whitworth; special niece, Sheila Pritchett; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023, in the Chapel of McGahee ~ Griffin & Stewart with Rev. Austin Kelley and Rev. Wayne Fowler. Interment will follow at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 ~ 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the funeral home.
