In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Bryant: December 23, 1943 - June 15, 2023
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Shirley Ann Bryant (79), who left us on June 15, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Gainesville, Georgia, on December 23, 1943, to the late DC and Ruth Smith. Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Bryant, and her brother Lemuel Smith.
Mother leaves behind a legacy of love and a family who adores her. She is survived by her dear sister, Donna Cagle, who was her lifelong confidante and frequent partner in crime. Together, they navigated the joys and challenges of life, offering unwavering support and unconditional love to anyone in need. She also leaves her beloved sister-in-law, Merita Smith who shared the love of homemade ice cream. She also leaves her sister-in-law, Mary Jo Dowdy who visited her daily.
As her three surviving adult children, Greg Bryant, Greta Meehan, and Gretchen Bryant, we are beyond blessed to call her Mother, Friend, Teacher, and Matriarch. She was the embodiment of selflessness, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her guidance and unconditional love shaped our lives forever.
Her vibrant spirit and wonderful sense of humor made her the life and soul of any family gathering or social event. Mother’s infectious laughter filled the room, uplifting the spirits of those around her. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel special and valued, leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.
Mother's love for her family knew no bounds, and she found immense joy in watching the younger generation grow. She adored her four grandchildren, Breanna Ellis (Mark), Gregory Bryant (Tabitha), Joseph Meehan, and Hannah Meehan, who brought great joy to her life. She cherished their presence and was a constant source of support, wisdom, and love in their lives.
Her four great-grandchildren, Maci Ellis, Ralston Ellis, Samson Bryant, and Caleb Bryant, brought endless happiness and laughter to Mother. She held a special bond with Maci, the oldest great-grandchild she selfishly and tirelessly cared for before becoming ill. Special care and prayers are requested as these young children navigate life without the physical presence of their Nanny.
Thank you to the staff of Laurel Lodge Assisted Living, NGHS Palliative Care, and NGHS Hospice for their care and endless hugs, support, and guidance.
The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Saturday, June 17, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Chuck Pritchett will officiate.
Rest in peace, Mother. You are deeply missed, and your memory will forever be a beacon of love, light, and hope for us.
In lieu of flowers, donations to charities that are important to us are appreciated.
