Last week the Good Lord called a special meeting and said, “Folks, I’ve noticed things have gotten too serious up here. We need someone to make us laugh. And I know just the person.”
So, on Sunday, June 11, 2023, the Good Lord called Mrs. Suzanne Young to Heaven.
Suzanne, 75, lived in Sautee–Nacoochee. She loved the north Georgia mountains. A talented artist, she marveled at the beauty of nature, God’s creation. She loved her plants and flowers. She loved classical music and the music of John Denver. She loved to play her ukulele. She loved to make her husband laugh and her son roll his eyes.
She was born in Atlanta. Her late parents were Herbert W. and Rebecca Terry of Athens. Also preceding her in death was her brother, Tom Terry of Spartanburg, SC.
A 1965 graduate of Athens High School, Suzanne then graduated from The University of Georgia.
Before retirement Suzanne worked as an information specialist in the Gwinnett County Public Library System. Prior to that, she was a librarian in the DeKalb County School System and the media director of Evans/Lowe and Stevens Advertising Agency in Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Walton Young, Sautee–Nacoochee; her son and fiancée, Matthias Young and Valentina Pashkovets, Cumming; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Evelyn Terry, Richmond, VA; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Mike Wooten, Athens; goddaughter and husband, Lauren and C.J. Cornette; grandchildren, Alethia and Sophie; and numerous other relatives.
Suzanne was a member of Parkway Baptist Church in Duluth and The Gathering Bible Study group in Skylake.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 15 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland. The Rev. Dr. Michael Justus and The Rev. Dr. James Ramsey will officiate. Visitation will take place at the funeral home at 1:00 PM. A livestream of the funeral service can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/event/3494801
Today, there are tears in Sautee–Nacoochee. But in Heaven the angels rejoice that Suzanne has come home. A joyful noise of laughter resounds as the Good Lord says, “Yes, I have chosen well.”
