James Avery Garrett, 83, of Gainesville went to be with Jesus on June 1, 2023, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Born on July 20, 1939 in Murphy N.C. to the late Violet Pittman and Garfield Garrett.
He was a loving and devoted Christian, husband, daddy, pop and friend. He will be missed by everyone.
He was a member of The Family Worship Center. He loved going to church, spending time with his family, going to his cabin in North Carolina. He also enjoyed deer hunting and riding 4 wheelers. He was the owner of Garrett Glass Company for 54 years.
In addition to his parents, James is preceded in death by his precious wife of 62 years, Yvonne Garrett, brothers John Garrett and James Vandergriff.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Vicki) Garrett, Shirley (Rickie) Mote, Joyce (Dan) Tench, James Jr. (Sandy) Garrett, Kaye (Dean) Christain and Gilbert (Denise) Adams all of Gainesville. Grandchildren, Matthew Garrett, Dustin (Leah) Tench, T.G. (Whitney) Mote, Andy (Brittany) Tench, Cody (Jackie) Mote, Kyle (Ashley Born) Garrett and Trey Garrett. 11 great-grandchildren, siblings, Bob Garrett, Carol DeVaney, Doris Smith, Allene Hughes, Leonard Garrett, Mary Jo Murphy, Linda Brown and Billy Paul Vandergriff. Special friend Martha Harris.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 6, from 6-8 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home Chapel Rev. Bob Garrett, Rev. Scott Ledbetter and Rev. Jonathan Sutton officiating.
