Douglas “Doug” Russell Smith

Mr. Douglas “Doug” Russell Smith, 77, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023 at New Horizon’s Lanier Park.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Robby Ledford and Rev. James Campbell will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Monday. June 5, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Born on December 3, 1945 in Gainesville, he is the son of the late J.C. and Minnie Gay Thomas Smith. He was self-employed in the Landscape Business. Mr. Smith was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Ray Smith, Carl Smith and sisters, Sandra Smith and Jeanette Ledford.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley Smith of Gainesville; daughter, Deanna Martin (Michael Funderburk) of Pendergrass; daughter and son in law, Nikki and Bradley Chandler of Lula; sister, Betty Standridge of Lula; brother, Nelson Smith of Lexington, GA; grandchildren, Greg Beatty (Ashley), A.J. Martin, Allie Conner; great grandchildren, Phillip Beatty, Alyssa Beatty; a number of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
