Jo Anne Hamilton Ehlert

Jo Anne Hamilton Ehlert was born June 4, 1932 and passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023, approaching her 91^st birthday. Jo Anne was born in Atlanta. 

Her family moved back to Buford, the childhood home of her father, when she was 4. 

Aside from a brief time just after her marriage in 1952, Buford would be her home for the rest of her life.

Jo Anne loved languages and became a Spanish teacher after graduating from the University of Georgia.  She ceased teaching during the early childhood of her three children, Eddie, Susan and Laura but returned to the profession.

She loved teaching elementary school and gained a Masters and Specialists degree to enhance her skills. Over the following decades, she taught at Harmony Elementary, Suwanee Elementary, Flowery Branch Elementary and White Sulphur Springs Elementary before retiring in 2000.  “Mrs. Ehlert” helped guide a lot of youngsters.

Along the way she took up the hobby of “miniature” construction and honed that skill as well.  She collected miniature furniture, building accents, appliances and what was needed for her creations around the country and in travels abroad. For many years she was a proud member of the Atlanta Miniature Society.

In retirement she was kept busy with travel often with the “Suwanee Goodtimers” group. She kept healthy at the Bogan Park Water Aerobics program and she was never far from her best pal, her dog “Sassy”.

Jo Anne is survived by her three children, Eddie Ehlert (Kim Salazar), Susan Ehlert Sinram (Alan Sinram), Laura Ehlert, granddaughter Petra Ehlert (Paul Martin) and great-grandson Owen Ehlert-Martin.

Graveside services will be held at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens on Saturday, May 27 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite animal shelter or rescue will celebrate her memory.
