Jane Brice

Obituary Date: Sunday, April 9, 2023

On Easter morning, April 9, the Lord called home Jane Brice. Jane was born August 7, 1939, in Trenton, New Jersey to Elsie and Charles Lawton.

Both her parents have passed, as has her older brother Charles Lawton of Alabama. Jane is survived by her younger sister, Elsie Lawton, affectionately known as “Aunt Dulce”; Jane’s three children: Andrea Brice and her husband, Dave Forbus (Seattle, Washington); Steve and Heather Brice(Fairbanks, Alaska) and their children, Andrew Brice, Madison Fitch and her husband Bradden Fitch, Jillian Brown and her husband, Chase Schollmeyer; & Tom Brice and Kim Garrett (Juneau, Alaska) and their children Tasher Brice and Ben Garrett.

Jane had a deep and abiding faith in her Lord, Jesus Christ. She attended Grace Calvary Episcopal Church since she and her family moved to Clarkesville from Fairbanks, Alaska.

While raising her three children, she finished an LPN at North Georgia Technical College, and her RN at North Georgia College in Dahlonega.

Jane had a craftsperson heart and loved to create. Jane was known for the Christmas stockings she knitted for her family.

Many nephews and nieces still have theirs, as do her kids and grandkids. She also had a small business, the Upper Room, where she made, sold, and gifted porcelain Belleek figures, which are still floating around Habersham.

Jane’s one indulgence was her sweet tooth. She was a great baker, and her pecan pie was to die for. One of her great joys was Dairy Queen. One of her last outings included a stop at the Clarkesville DQ where, at 10:30 a.m., she enjoyed a banana split– her favorite.

Jane, while being intelligent and gifted, struggled with mental health issues as well.

This caused her to be estranged from friends and family and face legal issues for a number of years. After receiving treatment, she was able to reengage many of her old relationships.

The family would like to invite friends to gather at Grace Calvary Church in Clarkesville for a celebration of Jane’s life.

At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2023, there will be a reception at St. Julian Hall where light refreshments, including a taste of DQ, will be served. The service will follow at 12:00.  Her remains will be interred in a private ceremony at Holy Cross Cemetery.

An online guest book is available for the family at www.hillsidememorialchapel.com .
