Rev. Herbert Monroe “Herb” Chisenhall, age 89 of Cornelia, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2023.
Born on March 28, 1934, in Atlanta, he was a son of the late John Monroe Chisenhall and Ilene Bonds Chisenhall. Rev. Chisenhall was a retired United Methodist Minister in the North Georgia Conference. He was ordained a deacon in 1962, an elder in 1964, and he held a B.S. degree in education from West Georgia College and a Master of Divinity degree from Emory University. Over the years, Rev. Chisenhall served numerous churches in the North Georgia Conference with 25 of those years spent in the Atlanta area. His ministry was centered around preaching, teaching, and growing the church spiritually as well as physically. Over a period of 20 years, churches where he served were involved in extensive building programs, such as educational buildings and a sanctuary. Some of the committees on which he served included, evangelism, social concerns, board of ordained ministry, and insurance. Rev. Chisenhall also traveled extensively during his ministry, including 12 trips to the Holy Land and to areas of Paul’s second missionary journey. In his travels, he had the opportunity to preach in Australia, Estonia, Korea and Fiji.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd; sisters, Lois, Ann, Vera and Margaret. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Rev. Chisenhall is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sandra Brown Chisenhall of Cornelia; sons, Stephen Chisenhall of Connecticut and Wayne Chisenhall of Thailand; daughters, Sharon Cargal of Flowery Branch, Juanita Walters of Allen, Texas, Susan Albee of Kentucky and Tracy Bridges of Cornelia; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Funeral service are 1:00 pm on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Cornelia United Methodist Church with Rev. Ben Wilcox and Rev. Mike Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the service hour on Thursday, May 18, 2023, in the fellowship hall of Cornelia United Methodist Church, 275 Wyly Street Cornelia, Georgia 30531.
