LTC (Ret) Oscar Gates Scoville, 87 of Banks County, GA died on May 14, 2023.
No services are planned. Burial will be 1:30 pm on May 23, 2023 at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.
A native of Macon, Georgia, he was a long time resident of Thomasville, GA and Ochlockonee Bay, FL. He had lived in Banks County since 1996. He was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Carolyn (Gates) Scoville; sister, Carol Brantley, of Ochlockonee Bay, FL.
A graduate of North Georgia College, he was commissioned in the Regular Army and retired after twenty years of active service. A Vietnam veteran, he was twice awarded the Legion of Merit as well as two Bronze Stars. He was an independent insurance agent in Crawfordville, FL for a number of years, after which he was a bailiff for the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office.
He is survived by his wife, Kay, the love of his life for 66 years; a son, Bobby (Linda) Scoville, of Gainesville, a daughter, Jennifer Scoville, of Murphy NC; granddaughter, Erinn Crowe (Gary); two great-grandchildren; Landon and Lorelai, grandson Elliott (Candice) Scoville, and four bonus grandchildren; and six bonus great-grandchildren.
