Patricia Mitchell Staples, age 76, of Elberton, formerly of Lavonia, passed away Sunday May 7, 2023.
Patricia was born in Toccoa on October 29, 1946. She was the sixth child born to Corbitt Thomas Mitchell and Annie Cobb Mitchell, where she was affectionately known as “Sash” in their home.
She was an active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she was a past Sunday school teacher, and she served in the nursery and on the library committee. Known for her work ethic, Patricia worked in various industries throughout the area including Painset Stone Manufacturing, Carwood, Bellcraft, Hartwell Sports, and later retiring from Textron Kautex of Lavonia.
She will be remembered for her love of gardening, but most importantly her love of family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dora Nell Smith; brother, Thomas Mitchell; nephew, Carey Mitchell; sisters in law, Patsy Mitchell and Carolyn Mitchell; and brothers in law, Billy Murphy and Tommy Smith.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Michael R. “Mike” Staples; two daughters, Melissa S. Mattox (Henry) of Elberton and Kimberly S. Danner (Michael) of Watkinsville; brothers and sisters, Ted Mitchell of Martin, Margaret Murphy of Martin, David Mitchell (Joy) of Martin, Jerry Mitchell (Montine) of Martin, and Mary Holloway (Tommy) of Toccoa; and numerous nieces and nephews, and their families. She was also the proud “Granny” of her four grandchildren, Michaela Mattox, Corbin Mattox, Sean Neill, and Samantha Danner.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 P.M. Monday at Strickland Funeral Home, Lavonia Chapel, 355 Bear Creek Road.
A celebration of life service will take place at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Stacey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 A.M. until 11:15 A.M. before the service at the church.
