Michael “Mike” Waylon Southerland, age 68, of Duluth, GA passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023, while on a fishing trip with a group of close friends.
Born at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta on November 6, 1954, Mike lived his entire life in Georgia, calling both Sugar Hill and Duluth home. He was a 1972 graduate of North Gwinnett High School and a 1974 graduate of Lanier Tech.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Waylon “Red” Eskel and Patricia Michael Southerland; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernie and Sara Knox Bullock; and his brothers-in-law, Myron Bullock and Don Bullock.
Mike loved and is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Sara “Sally” Bullock Southerland; son, Donald Michael Southerland and his wife, Sonya, of Auburn, Georgia; step-children, Sherry Leigh Ferguson of Peachtree Corners, Georgia, Andrew Scott Ferguson of Athens, Georgia; his sister, Terry Lawson and her husband, Robert, of Snellville, Georgia; his aunt, Mary Jo Southerland, of Snellville, Georgia; brother-in-law, Kenney Bullock and his wife, Irene, of Athens, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with Toby, the family dog, and traveling after his retirement. He was also a proud member of Sugar Hill United Methodist Church.

A Celebration of Life event will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the home of Allen and Gail West, 1931 Rambler Inn Rd., Jefferson, GA.
