Hattie Mae Hill Simmons

Hattie Mae Hill Simmons, age 95, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 13, 2023.
 
A daughter of the late Lon and Mae Brock Hill, she was born in Habersham County, Georgia in 1927 and later moved to Toccoa where she married Elmer Simmons.  Elmer and Hattie Mae were married for 39 years before his passing in 1986.  Hattie worked at Coats & Clark before she married and then spent many years as a homemaker.  She returned to work when her youngest child entered high school.  She retired from Penline Garment Company after many years of service. She was a member of St. James Methodist Church.  She enjoyed participating in church activities and occasionally liked to travel. She was a gifted homemaker, seamstress, gardener, and had the proverbial, “green thumb.” 
 
She was one of seven children of the late Lon and Mae Hill.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, J.L. Hill, Luther Hill, Grady Hill, Joel Hill, and Marvin Hill.
 
She is survived by her children, Carolyn Adams (Phillip) of Eastanollee, Georgia, Sybil Capes (C.W.) of Toccoa, Georgia and Ronnie Simmons (Katie) of Gainesville, Georgia; grandchildren, Steve Taylor of Toccoa, Michael Adams (Wendy) of Littleton, Colorado, Brandon Adams of Eastanollee, Georgia, Patrick Simmons of Gainesville, Georgia,  Laura Simmons of Boston, Massachusetts and Matthew Simmons of Norcross, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Maya and Ava Adams of Littleton, Colorado and Justin Taylor of Toccoa; sister, Sarah Richards of Toccoa.
 
Funeral services will be Monday, April 17, 2023, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Steve McIntyre officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Brandon Adams, Patrick Simmons, Matthew Simmons and Michael Adams.
 
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Monday from noon until the service time.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
 
Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens to be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Elmer.
