Wanda "Wannie" Butler Marlow

Wanda "Wannie" Butler Marlow, age 81, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. 

Mrs. Marlow was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born July 30, 1941, to the late Grady and Isabelle Turner Butler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother-in-law Gene Marlow and sister-in-laws Inez Marlow and Diane Marlow.

Wannie could be found working in her parent's grocery store, Butlers Thriftown, in her younger years. She graduated from nursing school at North Georgia College in 1985. She worked as a registered nurse at Northeast Georgia Medical Center for 25 years and was an excellent caregiver. After retiring, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Dahlonega Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 50 years.

She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved supporting them through every season of their lives. Wannie loved flowers and plants and playing bridge at the senior center. She will especially be remembered for her kind heart and nurturing spirit. She always opened her home to her family during hard times without asking questions. Every person and plant alike grew in her presence from the seeds she sowed. 

Wannie is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jerry Marlow; daughters Julie (Danny) Cantrell of Dahlonega and Jan (Randy) Brown of Dahlonega; son Jay (Dena) Marlow of Arkansas;  brother Jerry (Ellen) Butler of Dahlonega; grandchildren, Matthew (Tabitha) Lee, Westin (Dana) Lee, Parker (Katlan) Jarrard, Olivia Cantrell , Veronica (Dallen) Johnson, Claudia Cantrell, Miranda (Jimi) Clawson, Dustin Evans, Haleigh (Tim) Evans, and Holden Brown; great grandchildren Colton Lee, Landon Lee, Carter Jones, Tate Jarrard, Beau Jarrard, Marlie Clawson, Kyle Clawson, Bailey Clawson, Jameson Evans, and Jaxon Brown; special friends Melinda Sullens and Lana Melvin also survive.

Her family would like to extend a sincere "Thank You" for all of the amazing care given to Wanda by NGMC Hospice.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Anderson Underwood Funeral Home in Dahlonega. A Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Dahlonega Memorial Park. The Chaplain Dennis Duck and the Rev. Dalton Delozier will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dahlonega Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
