Mr. Floyd Claybern Simmons, age 79 of Brookdale Road, Toccoa passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at his residence.
A son of the late Floy Claybern Simmons and Eula Murphy Simmons, he was born February 27, 1944 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of his life in Toccoa. He was a retired U.S. Army Veteran and was retired from USA Metals as a machinist. He loved going out to eat at the fish house with his family, enjoyed going to the beach and the mountains. He loved his family, spending time with his granddaughters and loved his dog, Peti. He attended Mt. Zion of Double Churches.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Herron Simmons, son, Tony Simmons, sister, Anita Drawdy and by grandchildren, Levi and Carson Gamblers and Moore Babies.
Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Gambler and Debbie Moore both of Toccoa; three grandchildren, Angel Simmons, Chloe Norris and Ray Fulghum; a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 15, 2023, 12 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. Tommy Childress officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Ray Fulghum, Russell Proctor, Scott Herron, Seth Adams, Kim Herron, Will Dickerson, Joseph Williams and Nathan Williams.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Friday, 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday, 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Interment will follow in the Tom’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with The Reverend Tim House officiating. Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.
