Billy Wayne Brinegar

Obituary Date: Thursday, March 30, 2023

Billy Wayne Brinegar ascended to heaven on March 30th, 2023. He started his transition doing what he loved, working in the yard. He did not have to suffer and his two sons were with him at his passing.

Bill was 82 years old, born on September 2nd, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents William Brinegar and Opal Brinegar, his late wife and love of his life, Bonnie Gay Brinegar, his brother Daniel Brinegar and sister Aleta Cavender. Bill is survived by his two sons Billy G. Brinegar (and his wife Caroline O’Connor) and Tod Von Brinegar (and his husband, Timothy Mizell).

What can anyone say about Billy “Bill” Wayne Brinegar? He was so many things. He was a dedicated son to his parents, and brother, uncle, father, and cousin to his family. He was a giving neighbor and friend. Greed was not a word in his vocabulary as he gave of himself to a fault to anyone that needed him. He was a fair and honest businessman and entrepreneur with more awards, patents and accomplishments than we could ever list or research and had a reputation to match. Although he could take personal credit for his career, he often said that the Navy helped to forge his success in telecommunications. Bill was the author of two books; the first to help people reverse their diabetes and the latest he co-wrote with his neighbor and good friend, he often referred to as “an angel on earth”, Leslie Friedman, called The Circle of Success.

He was a teacher and loving father to his sons and a teacher’s work is not always easy with Brinegar boys. His most proud and dear to his heart accomplishment is his marriage to his late wife and stepmother to his children, Bonnie. They both believed in and loved God, knowing that one day they would be reunited in heaven. Before losing her battle with cancer, they both studied the bible from beginning to end, Bill the old testament, and Bonnie the new, and then they would compare notes.

Bill “Dad” leaves behind a legacy of tool collecting sons, that thanks to his guidance, are not afraid to do anything they put their minds to. Sons that, like himself, do not shy away from helping those in need and love and support their families. Bill has also deeply ingrained himself into the hearts of those who knew him well enough to call him their friend, and even those he didn’t know very well. The very day his neighbor and close friend, Leslie Friedman, took him to the emergency room, he was supposed to have lunch with his longtime friend Currie Hancock, who also shared his passion for gardening. He had planned to have her come see the garden that he had created in his backyard, because he knew she would appreciate it. Underneath his tough exterior sat a heart of gold and steel. The same heart that survived a quadruple bypass almost 30 years ago, the same heart that was broken at the passing of his beautiful wife ten years ago and the same heart that delivered him to heaven. Dad, we salute you for your service to your country and to your family and friends. You will always be loved and never forgotten.

Bill will be laid to rest graveside on Good Friday, April 7, 2023 at 1:00PM at the Resthaven Memorial Gardens cemetery: 2284 Candler Road, Decatur, GA 30032
