James Edward Daniel, Sr.

Obituary Date: Sunday, April 2, 2023

Mr. James Edward Daniel, Sr, of Dahlonega entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at the age of 83, after an extended illness and surrounded by his loving family.

He was predeceased by his parents, Oscar Thiot Daniel, Sr., and Wilda Bray Daniel, his brother, Oscar Thiot Daniel, Jr., and his sister, Georgia Daniel St. John.

James will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Suzanne Graham Daniel and his children, James Daniel Jr. (Jacqueline), Catherine Leopard (Jeff), and Dawn Postles (Jeff), and his seven grandchildren: Joshua Simmons, Jordan Simmons, Jocelyn Daniel, Autumn Leopard, Claire Postles, Jameson Daniel, and Adelyn Leopard. He will also be fondly remembered by his cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews and many friends.

James “Jim” was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia. He served in the military as an army cryptographer for three years during the Cold War. He worked for Georgia Power for many years as a Senior Designer in the Civil Engineering, Architectural section, in Atlanta. His lifelong advocation was involving the fine arts, attending Georgia State University art school, living in Conyers, Georgia for thirty years. Upon retiring, he worked as an art teacher for five years at Killian Hill Christian School in Lilburn, Georgia. In 2006, James and Suzanne moved to Dahlonega, and have spent many wonderful retirement years making dear friends at Bethlehem Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School teacher, singing in the choir, helping with men’s fellowship, Awanas and other ministries. In his Christian walk, he also served as a deacon and is a deeply devoted Christian.

James was a life long multi-talented visual artist and many of his works are part of public and private art collections throughout the country.   His joy was sharing his talents and testimony through his art.   Locally, he was a member of the Chestatee Artists group.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 7, from 4-6 pm, at Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, GA. 30533. Funeral Service will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home, Saturday, April 8, at 11 am. Pastors Michael Rodgers and Jeff Leopard officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, 1101 Camp Wahsega Road, Dahlonega, GA 30533.
