Mary Tyewonna “Sissy” Simmons, age 52, died peacefully and surrounded by family on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, after a long and courageous fight with heart disease.
Sissy was born on November 7, 1970, in Ringgold, Georgia, to Fred and Mattie Jones. Sissy has traveled and worked in several cities but Cleveland, Georgia is the community she loved most and has called home since 1996. Besides spending time with her family which was her favorite, Sissy had a new grown passion for crafting and gaming, as well as a mutual love for her dog, Charlie. Most of her days were spent in the last few years with her sister-in-law, but more importantly her best friend, Donna Hoosline, porch sitting and adventuring. Sissy had such a bright and energetic demeanor and was known for her smile, laugh, and warming heart. She touched many lives with her generosity, strength, and passion for living. Her passion for living was seen most for her daughters and grandbabies – an unconditional and proud love. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald “PePaw” and Julia “MeMaw” Simmons.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Andy Simmons; daughters and sons-in-law, Abby and Gary Hoosline, and Alexa and Bart Bruce; grandchildren, Jaxin Hoosline, Zion Bruce, Avett Bruce, and Harper Hoosline; brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Tammy Montieth; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Greg and Donna Hoosline, and Wayne and Denise Simmons; 8 nieces and nephews and their spouses; 19 great-nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 2, 2023, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Holmes will officiate. Interment will follow in Gateway Memory Park.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
