Luther “Tommy” Nelson Scruggs

Mr. Luther “Tommy” Nelson Scruggs, age 79 of Gumlog Road, Martin passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at his residence.

A son of the late Eugene and Ola Dell Williams Scruggs, he was born April 27, 1943 in Forsyth County, Georgia having lived a greater part of his life in Stephens County.  He owned and operated S & S Woodworks and was employed with Sheriff’s Construction Company for 20 plus years.  He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing and going to Sante Cooper to fish.  He was a loving husband, dad and grandpa, a dedicated family man.  He was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Frasier Scruggs in 2021, by a daughter, Cheryl Scruggs, brother, Billy Scruggs and by a sister, Elise Beaver.

Survivors include a daughter, Melisa Dean of Martin; granddaughters, Dana Miller, Anna (Nick) Thomas; great-grandchildren, Emmitt Rider, Kaden Rider, Landon Payne, Nicholas Thomas, Lincoln Thomas and Lennox Thomas; sister, Louise Scruggs Knight; brothers, Ronald “Tootsie” Scruggs and Nicky Scruggs.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 1, 2023, 2 o’clock p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with Mr. Michael McDaniel and The Reverend Richard Ivester officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Matt Frasier, Jeff Stewart, Johnathon Stewart, Brian Scott, Anthony Scott and Joey Stader.  Honorary pallbearers will be Emmitt Rider, Landon Payne, Kaden Rider and Ronald “Tootsie” Scruggs.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 12 noon until the service time.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with The Reverend Scott Sweatman officiating.
