Mother Grace known to so many as “Momma”, “Madea”, “Mother Mahaffey “and to the neighborhood as “Ms.Mahaffey” was born November 4, 1936, (the year of the great tornado of 1936) to the late Mr. and Scott and Mrs. Julia Demory. She departed this life on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Moma was the last born of the Demory children and the last of the children to leave this world.
Grace attended Northwestern School and Fair Street Schools in Gainesville, Georgia and was a faithful member of The Back to the Bible Holiness Church in Marietta, GA under the leadership of the late Bishop Raymond Moss Sr.
She was preceded in death by her husband Preston Mahaffey Sr., Daughter, Landra “Virginia” Mahaffey-Clark. Sisters: Mary Davenport, Sarah Hightower, and Lois Chislom. Brothers: Scott (Babe) Demory Jr, William (Bill) Demory, Paris Demory, Walter Demory, Charles Demory Sr., and Clyde Demory.
To carry on her legacy are children: Preston “William” Mahaffey, Jr. (Gloria), Gary “Emily” Watkins (Danny), Catherine “Annette” Chapman, Sandra (Elder Michael Thompson), Christopher “Paris” Mahaffey (Niki), Jeffery “Jeff” Mahaffey and Pamela D. Glasper
Twenty-five Grandchildren and a tribe of Great Grandchildren, also a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The visitation will be held Wednesday, March 29th at Antioch Baptist Church at the hour of 12:00 p.m. The Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at Antioch Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
