John H. “Jackie” Lomax, Jr., age 70 of Toccoa, passed away March 19, 2023.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina on January 13, 1953, Jackie was the son of the late John H. Lomax, Sr. and Ruth Lois Lomax Matthews. He was a self-employed carpenter and he was a United States Army Veteran. Jackie was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish. He loved making beautiful music and listening to music. He also collected guns, coins and loved a good turkey shoot. Jackie was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his daughter and son in law Leta and Tim Bowden of Mt. Airy, son and daughter in law Jonathan and Alexus Pitts of Mt. Airy, wife Gail Cobb of Toccoa, stepson Daniel Cobb of Stephens County, stepdaughter Rachel Davenport (Johnny) of Stephens County, brother Gary Matthews (Cindy) of Toccoa, sisters Robin Matthews English (Lamar) of Banks County and Tammy Matthews Moon (Carey) of Stephens County, grandchildren Layleigh Crowe, Tylee Bowden, Kyler Hopkins and Isabelle Pitts, as well as numerous extended family.
Graveside services will be held at Welcome Home Baptist Church Cemetery at 12:00 PM, Thursday, March 23, 2023 with Rev. Chip Cranford, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Grant Reeves Honor Guard.
