Mr. Luther Cornelious “L.C.” Thomas, age 86, entered Heaven’s gates on Sunday, March 19, 2023.
L.C. was born on March 31, 1936, to Griffin and Adell (Palmer) Thomas, in White County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law: Geneva and Russell Humphries; sister-in-law: Becky Thomas; brothers-in-law: J.C. Nation, Lonnie Daniel, Jr., Dewey Elrod; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Ruth Daniel, and Oscar and Beatrice Daniel.
L.C. was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Heilbronn, Germany. L.C. was a 30-caliber machine gunner and drove a M48 Armored personnel full track which carried 14 troops and 1 jeep inside. L.C. was in the 54th Armored Infantry 4th Armored Division. While in Germany he traveled all the surrounding countries while on leave. He and his family revisited Germany in 1990.
L.C. married the love of his life, Zoella Daniel. They were happily married 55 years. Their love for travel has taken them all over the U.S. He was a great storyteller! He told great stories about his childhood, time in the Army, and family history. L.C. retired from the State of Georgia. He loved working on his farm. L.C. was a loving father and taught them to work hard and love unconditionally.
L.C. is survived by his loving wife, Zoella; daughter, Jennifer Thomas (P.J. Stapleton); son, Denton Thomas (Priscilla Levesque); grandson, Alex (Joanna) Hamilton; brothers, Theiron (Sybil) Thomas, Grady Thomas, Stanley (Lori) Thomas; sisters, Genell Thomas (Larry Clark), Mildred (Danny) Pardue, sisters-in-law, Thelma Elrod, Lucille Nation; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou (Phil) Jackson, Jim (Queenolia) Daniel, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Friday, March 24, 2023, at The Chapel of Barrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Anderson will officiate. Interment will follow in Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
