Mrs. Mary Lois Cantrell, age 96 of Dahlonega, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 17, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Cantrell was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born on February 18, 1927, to the late William “Oscar” and Lilly Mae Sutton Helton. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Wesley Cantrell; son, J.T. Cantrell; grandson, Kyle Martin; son-in-law, Jerry Coker and siblings, James Helton, Verlen Helton, Ruth Parks and Reba Thomas.
Lois was a woman of great faith who loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of Town Creek Baptist Church. A heart filled with love and generosity is just a small way to describe this beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend. Everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her, knew that she was a true “rock” to many people. She was an extremely hard worker and made many sacrifices for the greater good, through it all her faith never wavered. Lois raised many children, seven of her own and many others. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Martha Coker; Shirley and Doug Shubert; all of Dahlonega; Janie and Ronnie Potts, Cleveland; Beverly Martin; Earl “Mouse” Cantrell; Wayne Cantrell, all of Dahlonega; 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; special friends, Lynn Dale and Vickie Nix; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, March 20, 2023 at Town Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Phillip Robinson and the Rev. Darrin Cain will officiate. Interment will follow at Town Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
