Marcia Oliver Hammock, 72, of Chestnut Mountain, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Emory University Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born on November 15, 1950, to the late William Newton and Mary Curtis Mundy Oliver. She grew up singing, and during college she was a member of the Mercer University Concert Choir. Later, she became a long-time member of the Voices of North Georgia (formerly the Gainesville Chorale). She had a great love of teaching and taught middle school with the Hall County School System at Davis Middle School, from which she retired in 2018. She was an avid traveler, and she explored the world with her daughter. Their last great adventure together was an expedition to Antarctica.
Marcia was preceded in death by her husband, Perry F. Hammock, and by her parents. She is survived by her daughter, Shellie L. Hammock, of Atlanta; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan O. and Jenny Hammock, of Watkinsville; three grandsons, Cooper, Harris and Brock Hammock; and brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Sally Oliver, of Chestnut Mountain.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, March 10, 2023, at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, 355 Dawsonville Highway, Gainesville, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Little & Davenport Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Phil Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow at the Chestnut Mountain Baptist Church cemetery, 4903 Chestnut Mountain Circle, Flowery Branch, Georgia.
