Vernell Dorothy Cochran

Mrs. Vernell Dorothy Cochran, age 80, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2023.

Mrs. Cochran was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. She was born on December 31, 1942, to the late Lewis and Pauline Segers Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Loyal Brown and J D Brown. Mrs. Cochran was a beloved mother to her son. Her favorite hobbies were a good game of putt-putt, working in her flower garden, or a trip to Texas Roadhouse for some ribs. Mrs. Cochran was deeply loved by her family and made memories like passing on the tradition of making her “peanut birthday cake” to Robert as passed down from her father Lewis.  She also enjoyed spending time with her fur baby “Hazel Nut .” She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Mary Cochran, Cumming; brother and sister-in-law Charles and Barbara Brown, Dahlonega; sister-in-law Syble Brown; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, March 10, 2023, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. The Rev. Les Fuller, the Rev. Lyman Caldwell, and the Rev. Stephen Gerrells will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday and 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
