Cheryl Lynn Caddell Shippey was born on March 14, 1959, in Berkeley, CA. She passed into the loving light of her eternal home at the age of 63 on March 1, 2023, in Gainesville, GA.
She is preceded in death by her father, Jerry Allen Caddell and her niece, Ashley Ward Ebarb. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Robert Clifford Shippey, Jr. and their three children, Margaret Elizabeth, Benjamin Wesley, and Aaron Joseph Shippey, her mother Darlene Bobo Caddell, her brother Mark Caddell, sister Brenda (Rich) Woll, her nephews, Dakota Farquhar-Caddell (Shannon), Jax Caddell, and Jack Woll, and her nieces, Jamie Ward, and Laura Beth Ward Hale (Marty). brother-in-law, Jonathan Allen Shippey (Kim), nephew, Ethan Shippey, and niece, Alyssa Shippey. Cheryl was a beacon of light. She never judged, forgave without thought, and loved deeply. She was our family’s rock and North Star.
A public memorial service to celebrate Cheryl’s life and faith will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, March 11, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Gainesville, GA, where she was an active member. A reception hosted by her loving colleagues at the Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation will occur in the church banquet hall foyer immediately following the service. The Rev. Dr. Jeremy Shoulta and the Rev. Ruth Walker Demby will preside over the service assisted by the Rev. Dakota Farquhar-Caddell. The church address is 751 Green ST, Gainesville, GA 30501.
Cheryl was a Certified Fund Raising Executive and in her ninth year as a Major Gifts Officer for the Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation where she led philanthropic strategy for Emergency & Trauma services as well as the southern market. She served nonprofit organizations for over two decades with a commitment to children and health related causes. Cheryl was an active member of the Braselton Rotary and a member of the Oasis Sunday School class at First Baptist Church. She had a passion for raising funds to support health-related causes in Northeast Georgia and remained grateful for the many generous supporters who contributed to the Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation. Cheryl was a 1981 Bachelor of Finance graduate at Baylor University, Waco, TX, where she enjoyed the sisterhood of Zeta Tau Alpha. She was also a 1984 Master of Divinity graduate of the Southern Baptist Theologica Seminary in Louisville, KY, at a time when the seminary espoused theologically progressive views including support for women in ministry.
