Mr. Glendon Jones, age 94, of Murrayville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 2, 2023, surrounded by his beloved family.
Mr. Jones was born on May 2, 1928, in Gwinnett County to the late Walter Lee and Izora Wheeler Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Bonnie Lingerfelt; brothers Johnnie Paul Jones and Bruce Jones. Kind-heartedness, humility, and meekness are virtues that Glendon possessed. These virtues were left everywhere he went, from his early days of equipment grading with his brother Johnnie Paul to giving neighbors and friends vegetables from his garden. Glendon retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after many years of dedicated road work. He then went to work as a school bus driver for the Lumpkin County School Board. Glendon was deeply loved and respected in the places he worked.
Many of Glendon's family and friends, including his beloved church family Bethlehem Baptist, received the Lord's help through the prayers he prayed for them. The Bible declares in James 5:16b KJV, "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." Glendon’s life of humility and prayer will continue to be admired and missed.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Claudine Jones, Murrayville; children Scott and Gina Jones, Murrayville; Sharon and Brad Head, Dahlonega; grandchildren Jennifer and Jonathan Martin, Stephanie and Daniel Davis, Logan and Allison Head, Claudia Head (Logan Turner); great-grandchildren Robby Davis, Faith Ann Martin, Kelsey Head, Harper Head; sister Mary Lou Gooch; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 PM Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Rodgers and the Rev. Kris Butler will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with the Rev. Jonathan Martin officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to Pruitt Health Care and Gina Jones for the love and special care given to Glendon during his illness and passing.
