Dorothy Jamison

Obituary Date: Monday, February 27, 2023

Dorothy Jamison was born to the late Willie Mae and Tom Brown on November 22, 1932 in New York City, NY. On February 27, 2023, she passed away peacefully at age 90 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, GA. She fought until the very end. Dorothy grew up in Harlem, NY with her sister and two brothers. Her biological father unfortunately passed away when she was six years old, so she was raised by her mother and stepfather. In her teen years, she discovered that she loved to dance, so she enrolled in dance school to pursue her dream. After graduating from NYC Public Schools, Dorothy began her career working at a bank. In September of 1955, she married her sweetheart, Curtis Jamison Sr, and they spent many years happily married. Six children were born from this union. In 1959, the couple moved to Westbury, Long Island, NY to raise their children. Curtis, Sr. preceded her in death by 25 years and she never remarried. In the 1990s, Dorothy moved to Georgia, where she lived the remainder of her years. Dorothy was well-loved by her family and friends, who affectionately referred to her as Dorothy, Dottie, Dot, or DJ. While living in Westbury, she enjoyed frequent outings to Jones Beach, backyard barbecues and dancing to the oldies. Years after moving to Georgia and then retiring as a Collections Rep in her sixties, Dorothy decided she wanted to start traveling. Her dream was to go on a cruise with her family every year. In the 1990’s, she traveled to Barbados, the birthplace of her biological father. Over the years, she also went on several Caribbean cruises with family and friends. Dorothy was a beloved member of Friendship Baptist Church in Duluth, GA, where she enjoyed serving her community by volunteering with the Outreach Ministry and singing in the Mass choir. When she was no longer able to watch services due to the pandemic, she continued to attend services online. Always the intercessor, she started her mornings with prayer. Dorothy’s hobbies were sewing, painting ceramics, and doing word searches. She also loved hosting bbqs and family gatherings. She loved any action or western movie and made any judge show part of her daily routine. She always brought a smile to everyone’s face and made a lasting impression on everyone she met. Dorothy was preceded in death by her late husband Curtis Jamison, Sr., her sister Rene and her two brothers, Thomas and Earl Brown. Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children: Yvette, Cassandra, Abdus Samad, Vanessa, Kerry and Lisa; daughter-in-law Jackie Jamison; son-in-law Billy Carr; 18 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her late sister Rene’s 4 children and grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as their “Bama.” She will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Baptist Church, Duluth, GA. Visitation will began an hour prior to the funeral service at Friendship Baptist Church, Duluth, GA. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
