Steve Howard

Steve Howard, 75, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Born December 19, 1947, Steve had been a resident of Dawson County for over 40 years.  Born and raised in Gainesville, he was a 1966 graduate of East Hall High School.  Following high school, Steve owned and operated Howard’s Gulf Service Station in downtown Gainesville until joining the Hall County Sheriff’s Department in the early 1970’s.  He served as a law enforcement officer in Hall County until joining the Georgia Department of Corrections, Internal Affairs, and the Department of Juvenile Justice where he worked until retirement.  Steve served for 44 years in law enforcement.  A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was an avid Georgia Tech fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends most of all.  Steve never met a stranger, always wore a smile, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ford and Ophnes Howard, and sister, R.V. Beatty.

Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Angela B. Howard of Dawsonville; children, Heather (Russ) Crain of Gainesville, Stephen (Jenny) Howard of Gainesville, Dexter (Stacy) Hubbard of Dawsonville; brothers, Clinton (Gracelyn) Howard of Gainesville, Wayne (Patti) Howard of Gainesville; grandchildren, Rhiannon Crain, Henry Crain, Luke Howard, Lee Howard, Will Hubbard; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Pete and Linda Bearden of Dawsonville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chad and Vicki Bearden of Dawsonville, David and Kristi Bearden of Dawsonville; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.  Rev. Russell Burt, Rev. Jason Hamby, and Rev. Dennis Bottoms will officiate. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
