Charles David Joyner

Obituary Date: Tuesday, January 17, 2023

Charles David Joyner, 56, of Gwinnett County, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

A Blackshear native he was a grandson of the late John and Myrene Joyner and the late Ben and Malissa Walker.

He was a loyal and loving son to his mother Sandra (Nelson) Whitaker and his father Charles Joyner. He was extremely proud of his family and spent countless hours of his life recalling the beautiful memories of his childhood working with his grandparents on their farms.

He was a proud father, a devoted son and a southern gentleman to his core. He graduated from Pierce County High School before attending the University of Georgia, was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and received his law degree at Georgia State University. While he had humble small-town beginnings, he proudly served as Juvenile Court Judge in Pierce County, before he went on to have a successful legal practice as a trial attorney in metro Atlanta. He spent his entire 31-year career positively impacting the lives of those who had the honor to know him.

He was a truly devoted husband and father and spent his time outside of his law practice with his family and in most recent years enjoyed playing golf with his beloved friends. He loved history, family tradition and yearned for the days before technology. He had a keen understanding of the human condition and believed that hope was the greatest gift he could offer others.

He loved his family, his country, this great state of Georgia and his fellow man.  While he was certainly never one to shy away from a good fight, his kindness and compassion for others will forever be his legacy. He will be missed greatly by his family, his community, and his friends.

Survivors include his wife, Cassandra, the only woman he ever loved, and his two amazing children, Jacob and Julie; his siblings Malissa (Mark) Brown, Sandy (Tony) Owen, Suzanne (Brian) Stokes, Sabrina (Chris) Tolbert, Sabra (Ryan) Daley, Jennifer (Chris) Purdy and Blake Joyner; his parents-in-law Leon and Peggy Phillips; his sister-in-law Lena Smallwood and 40 nieces and nephews that he adored beyond measure.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at The Venue at Friendship Springs in Flowery Branch. A private interment will be held after the service.

Flowers are appreciated and may be sent to Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel & Gardens in Buford.

Donations can be made in his honor to any of the following charities: National Audubon Society, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) or the Gary Sinise Foundation.
