William Raymond “Bill” Martin

Mr. William Raymond “Bill” Martin, age 86  of Fairplay, SC passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.

A son of the late Raymond and Annie Jane McCay Martin, he was born April 18, 1936 in Gallipolis, Ohio and lived his younger years in Eastanollee, GA. He graduated from Georgia Tech in 1959 with a degree in industrial engineering.  Bill married Christine Forrester Martin, the love of his life in December 29, 1959 and was married for 63 years.  He started his own construction and contracting business and ran it for many years in Douglasville, GA where they lived for 32 years, having moved to Fairplay, SC in 1986.  Bill was an avid Georgia Tech fan and enjoyed traveling with his wife and had many different hobbies: playing golf, skiing and flying.  He was a Mason and a Shriner, belonging to the Yaarab Shriners of Atlanta, GA and a member of the M. M. Grand lodge A.F.M. of SC. and helped found the American Youth Football Association of Georgia.  He was a member of the Confidence United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by 2 aunts Frances Boggus and Mary Shiver, and a son Raymond Randall Martin.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Christine Forrester Martin of the home, sons, Carl William and Pam Martin of Jefferson, GA, Christopher and Lisa Martin of Dallas, GA, grandchildren; William and Allie Martin, Taylor Martin and Adeila Cervantes, Aaron Martin and Christa Baker, Fayth Martin, Ian Martin and Aubrey Martin, great-grandsons: Luke, Liam, Hudson and Hayden.

Funeral services will be 3 PM, Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the Confidence United Methodist Church with the Reverend Dennis Wilkes officiating; the family will be visiting prior to the service at the church from 2 until 3 PM.  The following will serve as pallbearers: Adam Forrester, William Martin, Taylor Martin, Aaron Martin, Ian Martin, Janney Sanders, David Sims and Don Tabor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of Northeast Georgia, The Medical Center Foundation, Inc., Hospice of NE GA Medical Ctr. Fund, 2150 Limestone Pkwy. Ste 115, Gainesville, GA 30501-2567 or to the Confidence United Methodist Church, 98044 GA Hwy 17, Toccoa, GA 30577

Interment will be in the Confidence United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of arrangements for Mr. “Bill” Martin.
