Sandra Jo Sims

Sandra Jo Sims was born on March 12, 1953 in Gainesville, GA to the late Rev. Charlie Sims, Jr. and the late Conchita Sims. She was called home to be with the Lord on February 6, 2023. She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Winston Sims; and sister, Connie Delores Sims.

Sandra grew up in the “Newtown Community”. She attended Fair Street Elementary School and graduated from Gainesville High School in 1971. Sandra was a person who was unselfish in her approach when anyone needed her help.

She accepted Christ at an early age by joining New Salem Baptist Church. Later in her life, she joined Antioch Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Rodney A. Lackey, Sr. She served as a member faithfully until her health started to decline. In spite of her absence, she continued to worship among her family and friends. She prayed for salvation and peace not only for herself, but she extended those same prayers for her family and friends. Furthermore, she loved listening to gospel music and sermons on a daily basis. Without a doubt, she was a God-fearing woman.

Sandra was a person who loved to serve humanity. She strived to make sure that everyone had what they needed without looking for a return, whether it was family or friends. One thing in particular was her cooking. Sandra was the master chef of the family. Her fried chicken was off the chart. Not only did you eat the crispy chicken, you could also chew the gristle until there was nothing else left on the bone. Let’s not forget all of the vegetables she cooked along with the chicken and other meats she prepared. It was something to experience. She was one of the cleanest people ever known. Don’t ask for anything in the house without washing your hands. If you wasted something, she would expect you to immediately clean up. She nurtured her entire family constantly and made sure that no one was lacking with their needs. She provided gifts for Christmas to everyone in the family even when she was not able to physically shop for them. She was the epitome of sacrifice.

She had an impeccable work ethic. She worked at Leece-Neville alongside her father until his death. When she got paid, she would save almost everything. She often wondered why people who worked did not have any money. When she got paid, she would almost save her entire check. If you needed something, ask Sandra. This characteristic was learned by listening to her father who preached about saving every time you got paid. Every sibling followed this gesture.

Sandra leaves to cherish her memories to her sister, Angela Witt; brother Dexter “Tyrone” (Angie) Sims; nephews, Machon Sims and Gerik (Tyema) Witt; nieces, Stephanie Witt, Tomeki (Nigel) Lavender, and Pyper Sims; great nephews, Christopher Sims, Nigel Lavender, II, Nicholas Lavender, and Gerik Witt, Jr.; great nieces, Elon Sims, Nia Lavender, and Gianna Witt; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday February 11, 2023 at 1pm at Antioch Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alta Vista Cemetery. Viewing will be held Friday February 10, 2023 from 1pm-7pm. The family will receive family and friends from 5pm-7pm.
