Rev. M.A. Poole, 97, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, and to be reunited with many friends and loved ones on Thursday morning, Feb. 9, 2023.
M.A. was the son of the late Mark A. and Myrtle Poole. Born February 11, 1925, M.A. was a US Army veteran, having served in the South Pacific during World War #2, 37th Division, 129 Infantry. He was in Manila when the war ended.
M.A. was a Baptist preacher for 60+ years, having pastored several Baptist churches in North Georgia, including Timber Ridge, Union Hill, Pond Fork, Pleasant Hill (Suches), Canaan, and Zion Hill. He was presently a member of Timber Ridge Baptist Church, Gainesville, GA. In May 2007, an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree was presented to him by the Faith Baptist Seminary, Resaca, GA.
M.A. was also a brick mason by trade and took pride in his work, always pointing out his brickwork as he passed by jobs he had done in the past. He never forgot a brick laid or a message preached!
Everyone who knew M.A. knew he was an avid hunter and fisherman. His walls reflect his success, displaying many trophies. He shared this love with his sons and his wife. After retirement, he and Meredith spent many days in the trout streams of North Georgia and Cherokee, NC trying a catch “the biggest” fish!
In addition to his parents, he is proceeded in death by his constant companion, helpmeet, childhood sweetheart and loving wife of 73 years, Meredith Burnett Poole, son, Tommy Poole, daughter-in-law, Brenda Shanklin Poole, sisters, Betty Golembiewski and Frances House, brothers, Dannie Poole and Harry Lee Poole, sisters-in-law Mickie Poole and Geraldine Poole, brother-in-law George Sullivan, nephews, Barry House, Clint Poole, and Chris Poole.
Mr. Poole is survived by 2 sons, Johnny Poole and Terry (Debbie) Poole, both of Gainesville, 5 grandchildren, Wendy (Jeb) Smith, Hastings, FL, Cindy (Dale) Hope, Cleveland, GA, Christy (Billy) Ingram, Covington, GA, Stephanie (Justin) Chambers, Flowery Branch, GA, Stephen (Lisa) Poole, Lula, GA.
11 great grands- Jared (Camryn) Smith, Cady Smith, Jeremy Smith, Cayla Smith, Morgan Poole, Camdyn Poole, Jadyn Chambers, Gavin Chambers, Priscilla Ingram, Wil Ingram, and Gretchen Ingram and 1 great great grand, Austin Cribbs.
M.A. is also survived by a sister, Kathleen Poole Sullivan, Gainesville, brothers, Earl Gene (Betty) Poole, Gainesville, and Jerry (Kathie) Poole, Atlanta, brothers-in-law David House, Gainesville and Frank Golembiewski, Virginia, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Also, a special friend and fishing buddy, Mr. Ronald Wong.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 10 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday February 11 at Timber Ridge Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Poole and Rev. Kody Rylee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
