Donald John Hess

Donald John Hess (Don), 86, of Buford, Georgia peacefully passed away on February 2, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Don was born on August 18th, 1936, to Bernard and Stella (Polniaszek) Hess SR. in Depew, NY. Don grew up in Depew and entered the United States Airforce in 1957. After leaving the Air Force, he married Alice Napora on February 27, 1960. He worked for Western Electric in Buffalo, New York and was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia in 1976. Don continued working for AT&T until he retired in 1996 after 37 years of service. After retirement Don filled his time doing taxes for H&R Block and AARP. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Stella Hess SR. and his brother Bernard “Benny” Hess JR. He is survived by his wife, Alice Hess of sixty-three years, his three children: Lynn (Chris) Pogue of Dacula, Georgia; Jacqueline (Alan) Daniel of Loganville, Georgia, and James (Laura) Hess of Buford, Georgia. Don is also survived by six grandchildren: Christopher (Nicole) Daniel of Reston, Virginia; Kelly (Daniel) Wilkinson of Buford, Georgia; Ashley (Mike) Dunlop of Grayson, Georgia; Meagan (Aaron) Barry of Cumming, Georgia; Matthew Pogue of Dublin, Georgia, and Morgan (Carter) Depping of Sugar Hill, Georgia. Don also had the pleasure of seven great grandchildren: Taylor Harrison, Ellie Wilkinson, Nicholas Daniel, Charlie Wilkinson, Arya Dunlop, Drennen Dunlop, and Livia Daniel. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren take on life with adventures and made a lot of great memories.
Services will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church on February 27th at 2 p.m. Internment of Don’s remains will be on February 28th in Georgia National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
